FAQ

PRODUCT INFORMATION

Simply put: Yes! When sourced from hemp plants, CBD is legal at the federal level as long as it is grown in accordance with the 2018 Farm Bill (more below) and there’s less than 0.3% THC in any given batch.

HOWEVER, while technically CBD hemp oil should be legal everywhere, CBD laws by state still vary. Individual states still have the power to ban hemp CBD, or certain product types of hemp CBD, if they see fit.

As of this update (Aug 2020):

At the state level, hemp CBD is still illegal in these states: Idaho, Iowa, Nebraska, and North Dakota

And at the state level, specific product types of hemp CBD, namely CBD GUMMIES and CBD DRINKS, are still illegal in these states:

Maine, New York, North Carolina, and Ohio

Hemp CBD and the US Farm Bill:

According to an announcement from the FDA in December of 2018, the 2018 Farm Bill was signed into law. The bill removed hemp, defined as cannabis (Cannabis sativa L.) and derivatives of cannabis with extremely low concentrations of the intoxicating compound delta-9-tetrahydrocannabinol (THC) —no more than 0.3 percent THC on a dry weight basis—from the definition of marijuana in the Controlled Substances Act (CSA).

Let’s start with what it’s notCBD is NOT intoxicating, and won’t get you “high.” Ok now that that’s out of the way, CBD, short for cannabidiol, is a chemical compound found in its highest concentrations in the friendly (and legal) hemp plant. According to the U.S. National Library of Medicine, CBD is a naturally occurring substance that interacts with your Endocannabinoid System (ECS), resulting in a feeling of relaxation and calm. Unlike its cousin, delta-9-tetrahydrocannabinol (THC), which is the major active ingredient in marijuana, CBD is NOT intoxicating, and CBD hemp extracts must contain less than 0.3% THC.

The Endocannabinoid System (ECS) is a complex cell-signaling system found in mammals, and only recently discovered in the 1990s. It involves three parts: endocannabinoids, receptors, and enzymes. Endocannabinoids help keep internal functions running smoothly. Scientists now recognize that the ECS plays a crucial role in all kinds of human physiological functions: helping to regulate mood, sleep, movement, pleasure, memory, the gastrointestinal system, appetite, bone health, seizures, and pain sensation—just to name a few!

The complicated means by which CBD interacts with your ECS likely benefits a person’s health in a variety of ways. Experts are still exploring the ECS. But so far, we do know that this system plays a role in regulating human functions and processes, leading to a desired state of “homeostasis.”

Although there are numerous anecdotal claims on the positive effects of CBD — whether that be upon mood, as a sleep aid, or for management of joint discomfort — CBD is still a highly regulated space in the U.S. when it comes to touting its “medicinal, psychological or medical benefits.” At Out & About, we choose to be FDA compliant with our language, which limits our claims about how CBD can benefit you. We do believe, however, that the first-hand reports of the benefits of CBD are too numerous and compelling to ignore, including our founder's powerful CBD journey, which we hope you will read.

Short answer:Yes! According to current research at the time of this post (Feb 2020), as long as there’s less than 0.3% THC in the CBD product, it’s considered safe for pets, in correct dosages. Our premium hemp-derived products promise to contain less than 0.3% THC always, and we make certain our labels offer compliant dosing instructions.

No way! Our hemp-derived CBD is NOT intoxicating, is fully legal, and will not get you “high.” Our hemp-based CBD does not come from the marijuana plant, it comes from the friendly, and legal, hemp plant. Unlike its "look-alike'' cousin marijuana, our hemp extracts actually have 0% THC. At Out & About, our CBD products feature either broad-spectrum CBD extract or CBD isolate. Our broad-spectrum CBD oil products are high in CBD but contain absolutely 0%THC. The extraction process resulting in broad-spectrum CBD means our products retain some of the other cannabinoids, terpenes, and similar potentially beneficial compounds, but has REMOVED all THC. We always recommend looking at our third-party lab results, located on each product page, if you want to understand the exact levels of CBD in each Out & About product you purchase.

The U.S. government thinks so! Under the new 2018 Farm Bill, hemp has been reclassified as the same as rice or corn. Meaning, hemp CBD is legal in all 50 states. Our products contain only broad-spectrum hemp CBD oil or pure CBD isolates, which are all-natural and non-addictive ingredients, with 0% THC.

Like the old adage goes, we are all unique as snowflakes—no one is exactly the same. It’s what makes this big world such a beautiful place. That being said, it’s obvious that everyone has different stressors affecting their bodies during any given timeframe. Finding your optimal CBD wellness regimen is a personal journey that takes some time to dial in. There are faster acting products, like tinctures and topicals, and slower yet longer lasting products like softgels and other edibles. We encourage our new friends of hemp CBD to start slow with small doses (10mg and under) to see how your body responds. Take your first dose at night, since CBD can make some folks feel drowsy. Notice if you slept more soundly, and adjust your dosage as-needed. Or, if you are feeling stressed-out during the day, try a small dose in the morning, and see how it goes. We also recommend taking notes about your CBD journey!
